BHS Clubs

BELGRADE HS EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 2019-20

Athletics - includes boy’s basketball, track, golf, soccer, cross country, tennis, football, and wrestling, as well as, girl’s basketball, track, golf, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, and cheerleading. (Mr. Rick Phillips) Art Club - The Mighty Belgrade

Art Club is an all-inclusive, hard-working, project-oriented circus that solicits and accepts art-focused projects and challenges. We will meet these challenges every other Wednesday in room 130 until it is destroyed. Everyone is welcome. (Mr. Frank Jacques and the talented Mrs. Stacey Herries) Academic Olympics - a college-bowl type competition between teams of students from different schools around the state of Montana. Teams of students compete to answer a variety of questions based on an array of topics.

Academic Olympics provides students with an opportunity to utilize intellect yet participate on a competitive team comparable to the experience of students who are part of sports teams. Meetings/practices are every Friday at lunch in room 028A (Mrs. Fulton)

Azules Choir - If you enjoy singing pop & jazz-style music in a choral setting, this may be the group for you! We meet once per week at lunch. An audition is required & you must already be a member of a choir class to join. (Ms. Jones)

BPA - Business Professionals of America is the CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) for students in business education classes. Members gain work related experience by competing in business related events such as Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Public Speaking, and Computer Security at the Regional, State and National Conferences. (Mrs. Francis)

Broadcasting Club - Live streams school events. Students work as camera operators, scoreboard operators, producers, audio technicians, reporters, and commentators. Meets weekly at sporting events, concerts, & assemblies. (TBD)

Chanson Choir - This ensemble performs high level a cappella music from the Renaissance, Baroque Era, and Classical Era. We meet once per week during zero period (the day is TBD at our first rehearsal). An audition is required & you must already be a member of a choir class to join. (Ms. Jones)

Europe Club - All students are welcome to travel with us to Europe! We are currently fundraising for a trip to England, France & Spain in June 2021. We meet in room 218 every other Thursday at lunch. (Mrs. Erin Burns)

FCCLA - Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is the only student led organization with family as the focus. In FCCLA you have the opportunity to gain leadership experience, help our community, earn scholarships, meet new friends, and experience personal growth. FCCLA travels all around the state and even across the country! Meetings are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month in room 129A. (Ms. Young)

Fellowship of Christian Athletes(FCA) - This club is for students interested in growing their Christian faith. It is geared toward, but not limited to, students involved in athletics. We meet weekly and discuss scripture and relevant topics to student life. This discussion allows the students to work through problems they may encounter, to grow in their faith and fellowship with each other. Meets @ 7:30 am in Mr. Hoskin's room on Wednesdays. FFA - Student organization that promotes premier leadership skills, vocational training, and community service. FFA provides training and scholarship opportunities for those pursuing careers/education in business, agriculture, and trades. Our meetings are at 4:000 pm the first Tuesday of the month, unless otherwise stated. (Mr. Gavin)

Gaming Club - Organizes and plans a gaming night one time each school year and can organize and plan gaming nights more often if there is enough interest. (Mr. Phillips)

HOSA - Montana HOSA is a Career and Technical Student Organization that allows students an opportunity to explore healthcare careers while building relevant clinical, leadership, and teamwork skills. Students job shadow, guest speak, tour facilities, and attend healthcare event competitions. We encourage students to serve their community both now and in the future to improve the quality of healthcare in Montana. (Mr. Matt Hoskins)

Intramurals - Volleyball in the Fall and basketball in the Winter - open to students who wants to join in the fun. Everyone is welcome except for participants in the regular season. (Ms. Tamara Spangler)

Key Club - is an International Student-led Service Organization. We participate in a variety of service projects both within the school and the community. Meeting times are every Wednesday at 12:00 in room 209. (Mrs. Mears)

Link Crew -Junior and Senior leaders that welcome the Freshman class on the first day of school and continue with quarterly activities throughout the year. An application is required each year. (Ms. Capp)

NHS - National Honor Society is a group of chosen students that are leaders in the school. You must be at least a sophomore with a 3.5 GPA to be in this club. (Mrs. Nesbitt & Ms. Laurie Nelson)

Pep Band - A group of students that plays upbeat band music at sporting events. Requirements for eligibility must be meet in order to travel to sporting events. (Mr. Andrew Miller)

Pro Start - A two-year culinary program for Juniors and Seniors learning management and culinary skills needed for a career in the restaurant and foodservice industry. They study in the classroom, participate in mentored work experiences, and test their skills in local & national competitions. ProStart graduates leave the program with certifications in Servsafe, OSHA, and the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. (Mrs. Douma)

Robotics Club - The Robotics Club is an all-inclusive group for students in grades 9-12 that are interested in computer science and robotics. The club forms several teams each year to build robots that compete in local and state FTC tournaments. Students have the opportunity to engineer and build robots, program, and “drive” the bots. College scholarships are available to students that participate and most of all it is FUN FUN FUN!!! We will meet Mondays & Wednesdays after school in room 213. (Mrs. Rachel White)

Spanish Club - The Spanish Club participates in a variety of activities exploring the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Activities may include preparing and sharing food, Spanish Movie Night, learning to dance salsa, as well as many others! Club members also hold fundraisers in order to travel to a Spanish-speaking country together! We recently enjoyed an awesome trip to Costa Rica in June of 2018. (Mr. Neal Rainey)

Spirit Club - Helps plan themes for sporting events and helps support attendance at sporting events. (Ms. Tamara Spangler)

Student Council - Student Council is an elected group of students that are involved in making decisions concerning the school and what’s best for the students. You may also join by just coming to the meetings (you must have been in attendance at 3 or more consecutive meetings to be a voting member. They meet on Thursdays at noon in room 026. They have fun planning things such as homecoming, dances & fundraisers. They also attend a state leadership conference once a year. (Mrs. Newman & Shannon McLaughlin)

Speech & Debate - If you enjoy debating, thinking on the spot, researched presentations, or dramatic skits please give Speech and Debate a try. (Mr. Richard Robinson)

Theater - Calling all actors!! If you enjoy acting or want to participate with stage construction, lights and sound, publicity, or an array of other behind the scenes activities, then theatre is for you. We put on two productions a year. (Director - Mrs. Lynn West, Technical Director - Mr. Jeff West)

Writing Center Tutors - The all-volunteer writing tutors staff the Writing Center here at BHS from late October through the end of the school year. Following a successful application and vetting process, tutors receive initial and ongoing training in the fundamentals of Writing Center practices by the Director and by the writing tutors at Montana State University. Each tutor “works” one lunch period a week, offering writing help to other students, helping with Writing Center marketing, developing protocols and future trainings, as well as continually working to build a culture of writing in our school.
